Jefferson County is located on the eastern edge of Missouri. Approximately 220,000 people live in the county, making it the sixth most populous county in the state. Its county seat is the city of Hillsboro. It is included St. Louis Metropolitan Statistical Area and contains many of the southern suburbs of St. Louis.
About Jefferson County
Jefferson County was named after president Thomas Jefferson when it was organized in 1818. These days, the county contains 664 square miles and parts of nine major highways, including Interstate 55. A portion of the Middle Mississippi River National Wildlife Refuge is located there as well. Residents find entertainment and outdoor recreational activities at the Big River Saddle Club, Rockford Beach, the NW Jefferson County Sports Complex, Jefferson Winter Park, and Minnie Ha Ha Park.
