Arnold is a city located on the eastern edge of Missouri at the confluence of the Meramec River and the Mississippi River. It is the largest city in Jefferson County with a population of just over 20,000 people. The city has an area of just under 12 square miles.
Arnold was originally settled by a European man named Jean Baptiste Gamache, who purchased the land from Spain in order to establish and operate a ferry boat business across the Meramec River. These days, the Meramec River occasionally becomes a major problem for the city due to its tendency to flood after heavy rains.
In 2005, Arnold became the first city in Missouri to install traffic cameras that take photos of motorists who run red lights.
Notable residents include former NASCAR champion Rusty Wallace, former cop of the year of the NYPD Nick Mosby, and Chief of National Guard Bureau General Frank Grass.
